6 citizens of Bangladesh were arrested during crossing the Armenian-Azerbaijani border

8 May 2018, the Ministry of Defense of RA spread a statement that 6 citizens of Bangladesh were arrested during crossing the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, who were handed over to the National Security Service of RA.
According to preliminary data obtained on the criminal case initiated in the Investigation Directorate of the National Security Service adjunct to the Prime Minister of RA, on 8 May 2018 after midnight, 6 citizens of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh crossed the Armenian-Azerbaijani (Nakhijevan) border by adjacent area of the combat post of the military unit of RA MoD, after which they were captured by RA MoD servicemen on duty.
The above-mentioned persons by giving testimony stated that in order to find a job they had intended to go to Turkey from the territory of Iran, but they were lost and accidentally found themselves in Armenia.
Six citizens of Bangladesh were charged under part 2 of Article 329 of the Criminal Code of RA (“Illegally crossing the State border by a group of people in collusion”); arrest was chosen as a pre-trial restriction.
Operational intelligence measures and investigation activities are carried out in order to establish the identity of the persons, the credibility of testimony, the real motives of border crossing, as well as to check their association with extremist and terrorist groups.
Preliminary investigation is conducted.
Note: The suspect or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent as long as his guilt is proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA- by court decision entered into legal force.
