Case of Illicit Trafficking and Smuggling of Drug in Especially Large Quantities Detected

As a result of operational and search measures and investigation activities undertaken by the officers of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, a case of illicit trafficking and smuggling of drug in especially large quantities was detected.
According to the obtained preliminary data, a resident of Yerevan illegally acquired «Opium» type of drug about 3.010kg in especially large quantities for the purpose of sale from yet unidentified person from territory of Islamic Republic of Iran.
On October 20, the latter has transferred the above mentioned drug to the Republic of Armenia by hiding under the clothes with fixing it on his paunch and shank with a sticky tape. However, he was detained as a result of operational and search measures and investigation activities undertaken by the officers of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia in customs point of Meghri.
In the Investigation Department of the NSS of RA, criminal case has been initiated on the fact of the apparent crime, according to corresponding articles of the Criminal Code of RA. Charge has been brought and detention has been chosen as a measure of restraint.
The preliminary investigation is underway.
Note: The suspect or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent as long as his guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA-by the court decision entered into legal force.
