The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, within the framework of the implementation of its functions to fight against illicit trafficking and smuggling of drugs, detected and neutralized a criminal group engaged in smuggling of drugs in especially big amount.
In particular, as a result of operative-search measures and investigation activities conducted by the officers of the NSS of RA, on 13 August 2018 a transnational criminal group was uncovered the members of which tried to smuggle from IRI to Georgia drugs in especially big amount, using Armenia as a transit country.
According to data obtained as a result of integrated operative-search measures conducted by the operational units of the NSS of RA, it was established that the citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran M.I. obtained in IRI drugs in especially big amount, nearly 8 kg of heroin, and subsequently, by circumventing the Armenian-Iranian border crossing point, illegally entered the territory of the Republic of Armenia. While being under the operational surveillance of the officers of the NSS of RA, M.I transported the packages of drugs towards Yerevan on the outskirts of which was arrested by the NSS officers.
By continuing the urgent operative-search measures, the officers of the NSS managed to establish the two customers of the drugs – the citizen of RA N. Kh. and the citizen of Georgia J. K, who were uncovered and detained while receiving the drugs under the operational surveillance.
The above-stated individuals were going to transport the drugs to Georgia and sell it.
M. I., N. Kh., and J. K. were arrested within the framework of the criminal case instituted by the Investigation Directorate of the NSS of RA.
