The RA National Security Service reports with deep grievance that former first Deputy Director of the RA NSS, Major General Grigor Garegin Grigoryan passed away at the age of 85.
Versatile, lawyer by profession G. Grigoryan began his service in the CSS of the Armenian SSR in 1964 occupying the position of an officer, before reaching the position of the head of the department, and then in 1984-1991, he continued his service as a Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Armenian SSR. In 1991-1992 he served as Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia - Commander of the Armed Forces.
In 1992-1993 he was Chief Border Commissioner of the RA, in 1993 he was appointed head of Military Counter-intelligence department of the RA Ministry of Defense and headed this structure until 1995.
In 1995 G. Grigoryan was appointed deputy head of the State Department of National Security of the RA. In 1995-1996 he served as Deputy Minister of the RA National Security, in 1996-First Deputy Minister of the RA National Security, in 1996-1999- First Deputy Minister of the RA Internal Affairs and National Security, in 1999-2003- First Deputy Minister of the RA National Security, in 2003-First Deputy Director of the RA National Security Service.
Grigoryan made a great contribution to the formation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, the creation of the RA Border Guard Troops, and the establishment of the RA National Security Bodies. Major General G. Grigoryan was awarded more than once for honest and impeccable service.
In January 2005, he was discharged from military service by the Decree of the President of RA due to reaching the retirement age.
In recent years, he was the chairman of the Council of Veterans of the RA NSS Border Guard Troops.
The RA National Security Service expresses deep condolences to the family, friends, relatives and colleagues of the state figure.
The memorial service of Grigor Grigoryan will be held on November 5, 2020 at 6p.m. in the Church of St. Hovhannes Mkrtich in the Kond district, and the funeral will take place on November 6, 2020 at 1p.m.
