The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia received a report from a citizen of RA that a young man (resident of Yerevan) demanded from him money in particularly large amount threatening to publicize defamatory information about his daughter.
According to the obtained preliminary data, an individual who committed extortion, being in long-lasting relationship with the aggrieved person, videotaped some episodes of their meetings with the knowledge of the latter; then he contacted his girlfriend’s mother and demanded 6 mln. AMD from her threatening to post the videos with defamatory information about her daughter on the internet.
Part of the demanded money was passed to the abovementioned individual under the operative control of the officers of the NSS of RA, and immediately after that he was detained.
A criminal case on the fact was initiated in the Investigation Department of NSS of RA and the charge was brought under paragraph 2 of part 3 of Article 182 of the RA Criminal Code (Extortion in particularly large amount). Arrest was selected as a measure of restraint.

Note: The suspect or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent as long as his guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
