As a result of large-scale operative-search and complex criminal procedural measures taken by the officers of the RA NSS Department of Military Counterintelligence and the Investigation Department, it was established that the RA citizen, who was a serviceman, made acquaintance with representatives of foreign special services through a social network, was recruited by them and gave his consent to, on the instructions of special services, collect and transfer to them information constituting state and official secrets.

After that, on the instruction of foreign special services the former serviceman collected and for remuneration transferred by correspondence to an employee of a foreign intelligence service information constituting state and official secrets, other military data on the location of combat position under the protection of their unit, on the number of personnel on combat duty, their weapons, and other data related to the implementation of a combat mission, combat duty, as well as personal and official data of the commanding staff of the military unit, staff list of the company and battalion of the military unit, combat number of the military unit, data on military equipment of the military unit, photographed and sent photos of trenches of combat positions, roads leading to positions, the coordinates of the deployment of positions, thus committing high treason by espionage to the detriment of the territorial integrity and external security of the Republic of Armenia.

In addition, on the instruction of the foreign intelligence service, the serviceman established contact with a former comrade-in-arms and, for the purpose of transferring, tried to acquire other information related to the military sphere, in particular, the staff list of the company and battalion of the N military unit of the RA MoD, the combat number of the military unit, data on military equipment of the military unit, but he could not complete the execution of such actions, as he was captured by the officers of the RA NSS.

For treacherous actions, the former serviceman, received partial rewards from the foreign special services, as well as later reached an agreement to receive a total of 2800 USD and 6000 RUB.

At the same time, in another case being investigated in the Investigation Department of the RA NSS on the grounds of high treason an accumulation of sufficient evidence was obtained that the contract serviceman who is a citizen of RA, made an acquaintance through social networks with representatives of foreign special services and was recruited by them.

After that, the mentioned serviceman, in order to receive reward for transferring military information, collected and transferred to them, through mobile applications, information of a military nature constituting state secrets threatening the security of the Republic of Armenia, about conscription, armored vehicles of the military unit, vehicles, combat positions under the protection of the military unit, the deployment of the military unit and the location of buildings, on the daily routine of the military unit and other information, thereby providing assistance in carrying out hostile activities against the Republic of Armenia and causing damage to the external security of the Republic of Armenia, for these actions by bank transfers periodically receiving a total of 900 USD, and as a result of committing high treason, the enemy was given a real opportunity to make accurate calculations, determine the number, location, distribution of forces and means involved in various sectors.

Based on the direct suspicion of committing high treason, the mentioned two servicemen were detained and gave confessionary statements; arrest was chosen as a measure of restraint against them.

The RA National Security Service continues with all the available tools to carry out consistent and uncompromising fight in the direction of preventing and disrupting the mentioned crimes that undermine the foundations of the state, assuring that the Service is in full control of the operational situation assuring that everyone involved in espionage activities will be detected and subjected to punishment or other criminal legal action.

Note: The suspect or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent as long as his guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
