Case of Narcotic Drug Smuggling in Especially Large Amount Prevented by National Security Service

On 20 June 2022, by the officers of the Department of Economic Security and Countering Corruption of the RA National Security Service drug of “opium” type in especially large amount weighing 3025,76 grams hidden in the hollow sides of a cardboard box was found in a parcel delivered to “Haypost” CJSC by IRI citizen B.Z. and sent to the Commonwealth of Australia.
Within the framework of the criminal case initiated in the Investigation Department of the RA National Security Service on the facts of an attempted smuggling and illegal circulation of narcotic drugs in especially large amount for the purpose of sale, on the same day, B. Z. was found at the “Meghri” border checkpoint on the Armenian-Iranian border and detained. It turned out that the latter, by prior agreement with another citizen of the IRI, tried to smuggle out of the RA illegally stored by them drugs of “opium” type in especially large amount. However, the crime was not brought to an end due to circumstances beyond their control, since the case of the crime was detected by the officers of the RA NSS.
B.Z. was charged on the grounds of the relevant articles of the RA Criminal Code, arrest was applied against him as a measure of restraint.
Within the framework of the criminal case, necessary investigative and procedural actions are being taken in the direction of clarifying all the circumstances of the case, as well as the full scope of the persons involved in the criminal scheme and disrupting the implementation of their criminal intentions.
Warning: The RA Criminal Code provides for up to 12 years of imprisonment for smuggling narcotic drug in especially large amount.
Note: The suspect or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent as long as his guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
