As a result of complex operative-search and comparative measures taken by officers of the Military Counterintelligence Department of the RA National Security Service, it was established that the RA citizen, being a contract military serviceman - platoon commander of the N-military unit of the RA MoD, by virtue of his position having access to information and documents, which constitute state and official secrets, having become acquainted through the social network “Odnoklassniki” with a person who is an employee of foreign intelligence services, and having been recruited by him, through his account in the period from January to June 2022 he maintained contact with him, during which, for a fee, transferred to the latter various documents containing state and official secrets about his military unit, which contained information about the names of combat positions, communication routes, battalion command observation posts, interposition distances, their equipment, etc., thus committing high treason to the detriment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and external security of the Republic of Armenia.

In connection with this incident, within the framework of criminal proceedings initiated in the Investigation Department of the RA National Security Service the mentioned citizen was detained and gave confessionary statement. He was charged and a motion was filed to the court to place him in custody as a measure of restraint.

The RA National Security Service again urges servicemen to refrain from making acquaintances with suspicious persons through social networks or in other ways and transferring information of a military nature to them.

Note: Anyone charged with a crime is considered innocent as long as his/her guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
