As a result of operative-search activities carried out within the framework of the fight against crime, the officers of the Department of Military Counterintelligence of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia detected another case of high treason.

It was established that a citizen of RA, private E.A., a serviceman who had participated in the three-month training camp announced by the MoD of RA in August-November 2021, had access to information constituting state and official secrets for a short time in October 2021 through a social network “Facebook” got acquainted with a person who was an officer of a foreign intelligence service, acting under a pseudonym and being recruited by him, out of personal motives, through the “WhatsApp” application of his mobile phone, during the same period, collected and transmitted to the representative of the intelligence service information constituting state and official secrets about the order of service, the combat position entrusted to him, its specific deployment, the number of personnel on duty at the position, weapons, for which he allegedly received naked photographs of his interlocutor.

Within the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated in the Investigation Department of the NSS of RA, the mentioned person was detained.

The preliminary investigation of the criminal proceeding continues.

Note: Anyone charged with a crime is considered innocent as long as his/her guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
