First Session of Interagency Commission on Issues of Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing (Location Unknown) Persons Held at National Security Service of RA

On 16 November, 2022, the first session of the Interagency Commission on the Issues of Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing (whereabouts unknown) Persons was held at the National Security Service of RA, established by the Decision of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia dated October 20, 2022 N 1236-A.
Before moving on to the agenda items, the Chairman of the Commission, Director of the National Security Service of RA A. Abazyan made an introductory speech. Welcoming those present, A. Abazyan presented the tasks of the newly created commission and expressed hope that the revised composition and functions of the commission will allow for the search and return of prisoners of war, hostages and missing persons in a more coordinated and mutually agreed way.
Then, a selection was made of public organizations that applied for inclusion in the Interdepartmental Commission dealing with issues of prisoners of war, hostages and missing (location unknown) persons. Three of the applicant organizations were selected: “Luysi Chrag” Human Rights Non-Governmental Organization, “Center for International and Comparative Law” Non-Governmental Organization, “Tatoyan” Foundation Center for Law and Justice.
The chairman of the commission gave specific instructions to the members of the commission. The Commission decided to convene a regular session on 16 December, 2022 and include issues on the agenda in accordance with the given instructions.
