As result of large-scale operative-search measures developed and taken by officers of the Department of Military Counterintelligence of the National Security Service of RA, it was established that a citizen of RA, an officer with the rank of major of the N military unit of the MoD in July 2021, came to the attention of foreign special services, was recruited by them, signed a cooperation agreement with them.

Then, being appointed to serve in another military unit of the RA MoD as the head of one of the services of the military unit, while serving through messages, having received from foreign special services an offer to continue cooperation and accepting it, he undertook, for a fee, to collect and transfer to foreign special services information containing state and official secrets related to the military sphere, for use to the detriment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and external security of the Republic of Armenia, and under the prevailing conditions, carrying out his criminal activities from February to November 2022, collected and, through the various mobile applications he used, transmitted to a representative of the foreign special services information relating to the military sphere, constituting state and official secrets, in particular, documents of various contents classified as secret, data on the place of his service, orientation, number and type of units, as well as data on the performance of the service by the indicated units in the eastern and southern directions of the Republic of Armenia, in return for which, as a reward from a representative of a foreign special service, on different days he received a total of 19.700 USD, thus committing high treason to the detriment of the territorial integrity and external security of the Republic of Armenia.

Within the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated in the Investigation Department of the NSS of RA, the above-mentioned officer was charged, and by the court decision, arrest was chosen as a measure of restraint against him.

The preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings continues.

The National Security Service of RA once again urges all citizens of RA, including military personnel, to immediately inform the competent authorities about being recruited by foreign special services or receiving an offer of cooperation, in order to avoid discussing issues with them and transferring information related to the security and defense of RA, as well as taking relevant measures.

Note: Anyone charged with a crime is considered innocent as long as his/her guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
