As a result of large-scale operative-search measures developed and undertaken by officers of the Department of Military Counterintelligence of the National Security Service of RA, it was established that a citizen of RA, an officer of the N military unit of the MoD with the rank of captain, had been in the center of attention of foreign special services since the beginning of 2021 and had been recruited by them.

Then, being appointed to serve in another military unit of the MoD of RA as the head of one of the services of the military unit, having received an offer from foreign special services through messages to continue cooperation and accepting it, he took upon himself the obligation to collect and transfer for a fee to foreign special services information constituting state and official secrets in the military sphere, for their use to the detriment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and external security of the Republic of Armenia. Under such conditions, carrying out his criminal activities in the period from April to May 2021, he collected and, through the various mobile applications he used, transmitted to a representative of the foreign special service information constituting state and official secrets in the military sphere, in particular, information about those under protection of their units, armament, types of weapons, their number, the location of the combat position and other data. In addition, the photographs provided by him showed the armament and the number of weapons, including military equipment purchased from India. In exchange for this, as a reward from the representative of a foreign special service, he received a sum of money and a mobile phone twice on different days, thus committing high treason to the detriment of the territorial integrity and external security of the Republic of Armenia.

Within the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated in the Investigation Department of the NSS of RA, searches were carried out, the mentioned officer was charged and, by a court decision, arrest was applied against him as a measure of restraint.

The National Security Service of RA once again urges all citizens of RA, including military personnel, to immediately notify the competent authorities about recruitment by foreign special services or about receiving an offer of cooperation from them, in order to exclude discussion of issues and transfer of information related to the security and defense of the Republic of Armenia and take appropriate actions.

Note: аnyone charged with a crime is considered innocent as long as his/her guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
