On December 27, 2023, a regular meeting of the Interagency Commission on the Issues of Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing (Whereabouts Unknown) Persons chaired by the Director of the RA National Security Service, Lieutenant General A. Abazyan was held, which, in addition to the members of the Commission, was also attended by representatives of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Armenia.

The meeting began with an opening speech by the Chairman of the Commission, Director of the RA National Security Service A. Abazyan. Following the results of the year of activity of the Commission, A. Abazyan presented the work completed and spoke about upcoming tasks. The need to adopt a law regulating relations regarding missing persons was again emphasized. Based on the results of studying the appeals received by the Commission, the main issues of concern to the parents and relatives of missing persons, prisoners of war were identified. The importance of maintaining information communication between the Commission and parents was especially underscored. They also talked about problems that concern parents and possible ways to solve them. The work being carried out towards the return of prisoners of war was touched upon.

Afterwards, from among the public organizations that applied to fill the vacant position, the Commission chose the military-patriotic nation preserving non-governmental organization “Mets Hayk”.

Each member of the Commission presented the work done in their field, referring to the social and humanitarian programs implemented by the state, as well as the Armenian Red Cross Society, the investigation process in the Investigation Committee on the circumstances of going missing and the need to present DNA identification results to parents and relatives in accordance with internationally recognized standards, as well as events planned for 2024.
