On March 12, 2024, a regular meeting of the Interagency Commission on the Issues of Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing (Whereabouts Unknown) Persons chaired by the Director of the RA National Security Service A. Abazyan was held, which, in addition to the members of the Commission, was also attended by Deputy of RA National Assembly Vilen Gabrielyan and Arsen Ghukasyan, representing the interests of parents of missing persons.

During the meeting, the chairman of the Commission A. Abazyan spoke about the need to review future tasks and priorities, in particular, the importance of holding negotiations with the relevant structure of Azerbaijan was emphasized, taking into account the statements of the parties regarding their readiness to cooperate. It was also noted that the RA Investigative Committee is conducting a preliminary investigation into the circumstances of the disappearance of missing persons. Representatives of the RA Investigative Committee provided information on the progress of the preliminary investigation.

The need to ensure constant information communication between the Commission and family members was emphasized. It was noted that the Commission and its working group will continue to work with parents and relatives, accept applications on issues that concern them and organize receptions, since protecting the right of parents to receive information is one of the inseparable principles of the Commission’s activities.

Cooperation with international governmental and non-governmental organizations and the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Armenia was also discussed, as well as ongoing negotiations on the return of captured prisoners of war and civilians.

During the meeting, issues related to various areas of concern to the parents of missing persons were raised, discussions were held and proposals were made on possible options for solving existing problems.
