100th Anniversary of Birth of Former Chairman of State Security Committee of Armenian SSR, Lieutenant General Marius Aram Yuzbashyan

April 3, 2024 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of the former Chairman of the KGB of the Armenian SSR, Lieutenant General Marius Aram Yuzbashyan.
M. Yuzbashyan was born in 1924 in Batumi, Georgian SSR. In 1941, he moved to Tbilisi, where he studied at the local school of People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs.
In 1944-1945, M. Yuzbashyan was deputy commander of one of the guerilla detachments operating behind enemy lines. From 1945 to 1988, he served in the state security agencies. He entered the service as an assistant case officer of People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs for the Transcarpathian region. In 1960, he was deputy head of the 3rd department of the State Security Committee of the USSR representative office in the GDR, in 1967-1970 - head of the department, in 1972-1978 – deputy head of one of the divisions of the 1st Main Directorate of the State Security Committee of the USSR. From 1978, M. Yuzbashyan headed the State Security Committee of the Armenian SSR for more than 10 years.
He was awarded the Order of the October Revolution, the Order of the Red Banner, two Orders of the Red Star, the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, the Czechoslovak "Combat Cross", the Polish "Partisan Cross", as well as the medal "Partisan of the Patriotic War" of the 1st degree and several dozen other Soviet, Polish, German and Mongolian medals. In 1962, he was awarded the title of "Honorary Employee of State Security".
